DB Schenker Rail – part of DB Schenker – is the largest rail freight company in Europe. Within DB Schenker Rail, DB Schenker Rail Deutschland AG is the biggest rail transport company.
In the past the planning of locomotives and drivers were two separate activities. To completely integrate the planning of locomotives and drivers without changing the planning process Ab Ovo developed and implemented the Cargo Traction Planning (CTP) system. Besides an integrated planning CTP supports the round trip locomotive planning and takes all possible constraints such as labor regulations, track knowledge, locomotive knowledge into account. Jürgen Beygang (Leiter Traktionsplanung und Konsolidierung) said: “Because of the CTP system the planning of locomotives has become more flexible. As a result of this, changes can be carried out much more effectively.”
